The developers behind BiteSMS app have come up with a new app in Cydia called SwitcherPlus which enables you to switch between your multitaskable apps right from your iPhone or iPod touch’s lockscreen. This is the same native task switcher which comes with iOS 4.x for iPhone 4, 3GS and the 3rd-gen iPod touch. All what SwitcherPlus does is to enable the functionality in lockscreen so that you can use it without having to unlock your phone.

SwitcherPlus is currently in beta testing stages. Apart from the feature, it offers tons of other useful customizations:

Added a really COOL “Kill Prior” feature in the “Wobble Kill” mode.

Added new “Torch Light” feature (configured via favs) so you can very quickly turn on / off the LED light – long hold also strobes just for fun.

Added triple click feature to launch either “Torch Light” or “Wobble Kill” mode.

The favs feature is now configurable for both lock and unlock modes.

Added a separator bar between fav apps and running apps.

Only three months after debuting the iPhone 3G/3GS version of Play Hello iShoes -- which was late and not quite up to snuff in protection -- Taylor Technologies has returned with Play Hello iShoes for iPhone 4 ($25), a superior sequel. This silicone rubber case once again uses sneakers as a launching point for six colorful iPhone protectors, each packaged with shoelaces that you string up for decoration, and a color-matched string manager. New this time are the inclusion of a screen protector, a sneaker "tongue" that adds more protection to the iPhone's back, and the removal of each package's second set of more unusually-colored laces, leaving each of the iShoes boxes with a single contrast-colored lace option. Overall, we'd call these a nice and more timely improvement over the prior-generation case, albeit at a modest price premium.

iEcostand for iPad – Gear Review

Are you an environmentally conscious iPad owner looking for a stand?  If so, you need to take a look at the iEcostand from Design Visionaries.  As its name implies, eco-friendly is the name of the game for this stand.  From the packaging to the stand, Design Visionaries means business.  We were immediately impressed not only by the solid wood and sturdy construction of the iEcostand but by the eco-friendly cardboard envelope and shredded wood packaging as well.

Designed and crafted in California by local craftsmen, the iEcostand is simple and easy to use. It has a groove cut from one end to the other allowing you to use your iPad in three different positions (landscape, portrait and keyboard).  A hinged arm also folds in and out of the back of the stand to provide added stability for easy viewing around the house or portability when you’re on the go.

We’ve used the iEcostand for a couple of days now and really like its small size and portability.  It easily slips into a bag when necessary but its sturdy enough to support your iPad when you need it.  We found our iEcostand with iPad would stand without the hinged arm in place but we preferred the extra stability for our high tech devices.

In addition to use with the iPad, the iEcostand also holds iPhones, iPod Touches, Kindles and other small gadgets.  We were able to use both our iPads and iPhones but were sometimes limited when using them with their cases.  You’ll also have to charge your device before using this stand because it does not provide access to the docking port or, another option, turn your iPad “upside down” and charge it that way.

If you’re in the market for a well constructed, eco-friendly stand at a good price, give iEcostand a try.  It sells for $17.95 and $1.00 from every purchase is donated to the American Forests plant a tree program.

What we liked: Small size and portability are pluses when you’re on the move.  Supporting American craftsmen and forests are also bonuses.  The price is nice.

What we didn’t like: Won’t work with iPads in thicker cases and doesn’t allow access to docking port.  We’ve seen these “drawbacks” in other stands but don’t find them to be a show stopper.  We believe every user should evaluate his/her own needs and make a purchase based on those.

To buy or not to buy: Yes, the iEcostand is a simple eco-friendly stand but it’s sturdy and available at an attractive price point.
